Okay but what actually happens after a drop year? (class 11, asking early because I overthink)

I'm in class 11, PCB, and I make lists for everything, so obviously I made a list called "what if". One of the items is a drop year. The problem is I don't actually know what a drop year is, day to day, or what happens at the end of it. I only know the relatives' version: "he's preparing again", said in a low voice, like someone died.
Things I'd like to understand:
- What does a normal week look like in a drop year? Same as class 12 coaching, or different?
- Do people enrol in a regular degree at the same time as a backup? Is that allowed, and does it mess up attendance?
- If the second attempt doesn't work either, what then? Do you try a third? When do you stop?
- Does the drop year show up anywhere later (jobs, higher studies), or does nobody care after a few years?
- How do you stay sane? (Yes, this is on the list.)
What I've tried: I read two posts about drop years, but they're either "I made it!" or "it destroyed me" and there's nothing in between. I'd like the in-between version, from people who are in it right now. Please be honest. I think I can handle it. (I'll be anxious, but I can handle it.)

In-between version, from month 5 of mine: the week is like class 12 but with fewer people and more silence. Mostly self study, a few classes, a test on Sunday, a breakdown on Monday, and then you carry on. The big difference from class 12 is that nobody is forcing you. You have to be your own boss and your own staff. It's boring more than it's dramatic. Also sane-ness: sleep, food, one friend, one walk. Boring things.

Here's my actual week, if lists make you feel safe π
- MonβFri: 3 blocks of study (morning / afternoon / evening), 1 revision block at night
- Sat: test + analysis
- Sun: half day off, half day for backlog I don't recommend copying exactly. The point is that every week looks the same, which is why it's both easy and hard.

bhai ek doubt, agar pehle attempt ka score achha tha toh agle saal bhi use ho sakta hai na? like carry forward?

No, yash. Every year's score is only for that year's counselling. You sit the exam again and the new score is the one that counts. A good score last year doesn't help you this year. Also it can go down, which nobody says out loud.

On the backup degree: yes, many people enrol in a regular degree as a backup while they prepare, because a seat in hand feels safer. But attendance rules are different in different universities and states, and a degree plus a drop year can fight each other for your time. I wouldn't say "it's allowed" or "it's not allowed", I'd say check the rules of that specific college and talk to someone doing it. Aarav, this is exactly the sort of question to write on a list and take to someone in that situation, not decide in class 11.

Answering the "when do you stop" one, since I'm on my third. Honestly, the answer I wish someone had told me: every attempt has to have a reason that's different from the last one. A new problem identified, a new method, a changed environment. "I'm already here" is not a reason. I put my third attempt on a condition: if my mock scores don't cross a certain line by February, I start the backup. I have a date and a sister who knows it. Three attempts is a long time. I'm not saying don't, I'm saying set a date.

Sanity: I'm the person who writes about sleep, so, sleep. In my year I lost it for two months and everything else fell apart. A drop year has a lot of hours but they only work if your brain does. Also have one adult who is not your parent that you can speak to honestly. For me it was an aunt. Not to solve anything, just to say "today was hard".

Practical side: the money question matters more than people say. A drop year isn't just the fee, I wrote a post about the monthly cost. If you're in class 11 now, you've got time to quietly look at what a year would cost your family and make peace with that number. If it makes you feel guilty already, it's a sign to talk to your parents early.

About later: in my family nobody asks about the year now. They ask what you do. After a few years it's a small line in the story.

that's the best thing I read today. I'm saving it. thanks all, I'm going to make a new list called "things I can't control" and put the exam in it π

Add "other people's tone of voice" as well. It belongs on that list.
